Your first session focuses on adapting to new equipment and conditions. We'll assess your current ability, dial in board/foil setup for your style, and get you comfortable with our tow-in system.

Building Consistency

Subsequent sessions focus on specific goals: longer rides, pumping efficiency, wave selection, or speed control. With expert tow-in support, you maximize attempts—no exhausting paddle-outs or missed waves.

We'll move between locations based on conditions and your progression. Video analysis (optional) helps identify technique improvements. Most visiting foilers book 2-3 sessions during their stay to really capitalize on the conditions.

What level of foiling experience do I need?

You should have gotten up on a foil before, even if just for a few rides during 1-2 lessons. We focus on progression and technique—not teaching people to foil for the first time. If you've successfully ridden a foil (even briefly), you're ready for our sessions.

I've only foiled once or twice—is that enough experience?

Yes! If you've gotten up and ridden a foil, you have the foundation we need. Our tow-in support and expert coaching will help you build from there. Many visiting foilers have only tried it 1-2 times at home and make significant progress during a few days in Playa Venao.

Do you teach complete beginners?

Not currently. We're focusing on progression for riders who've already tried foiling. This allows us to maximize safety and provide the best experience for visiting foilers. If you haven't foiled before, we recommend taking 1-2 intro lessons near your home, then coming to Playa Venao to progress in world-class conditions.

Can I bring my own foil equipment?

Absolutely! Experienced riders are welcome to bring their own setup. We still provide jetski tow-in support, local knowledge, and safety gear. Many visiting foilers bring their boards but use our foils since they're optimized for these conditions.

How do you choose which location to session?

We assess conditions daily (swell direction, size, wind, tide) and match you to the best location for your ability and goals. Beginners typically start in the protected bay, intermediate riders often prefer the outside reef, and advanced riders might hit Cañas Point. Having three options means we're never stuck with poor conditions—there's always somewhere good to foil.

What's the best time of year to visit?

Year-round! Playa Venao receives consistent Pacific swells in every season, with warm water (78-82°F) year-round. Dry season (December-April) offers the most predictable conditions and lighter winds. Wet season (May-November) can bring larger swells for more advanced riding. We successfully run foil sessions 12 months a year.
